For one of our clients on Sint Maarten we are looking for an energetic and ambitious Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Background

Our client is Princess Juliana International Airport (‘PJIAE’, ‘the Company’), one of the oldest and busiest airports in the region. The airport handles a variety of aircraft a year, ranging in size from Cesnas to Boeing 747’s, making it the second busiest airport in the North Eastern Caribbean. It caters to 1.8 million passengers annually originating primarily from the Americas, Europe and the Caribbean. It is also known as the economic engine that serves as the backbone for growth and economic development, as it is responsible for 60% of the GDP on St. Maarten. Today, the Airport is considered one of the best in aviation, having won multiple awards, including the Best Caribbean Airport, 2016 and the Bizz Award, 2017.

General

The main focus for the CFO for the coming two years, will be the financial management of the rebuilding efforts of the airport in order for the airport to regain its position in the North Eastern Caribbean as the regional leader in providing safe, secure, quality and profitable airport services that meet international standards. To reach this goal during this period with many challenges, professional competences are required from the CFO in the field of cooperation with management team members, employees and the many stakeholders who are involved in this project. Besides a co-operative attitude this project requires that the CFO knows how to take decisions in complex situations

Responsibilities:

  • Contribution to the integrated management of the airport organization;
  • Development of Financial policy
  • Directs the planning and performance of duties in the finance division;
  • Management of the Finance division;
  • Translates the strategic objectives of the airport in financial objectives;
  • Draws up the combined long-term budgets and plans (planning, control and audit cycle) and supervises the financial results of the organization;
  • Defines and monitors management by objectives with the director of finance (as well as with the managers within the finance division), sets up conditions and boundaries for management by objectives. Monitors their realization, and sets priorities in consultation with the managers/director;
  • Initiates and stimulates the development of new policies within his/her field of action within senior management and guides them through execution;
  • Directs projects, represents the CEO, serves as an example to others, and maintains a broad network of contacts;
  • Initiates internal work discussions and is responsible for adequate and timely decision-making with regards to processes, products and services within senior management;
  • Conducts periodic performance and assessment interviews with the director of finance and gives suggestions on legal matters and contributes to the selection of new managers.

Kennis en vaardigheden

  • Completed academic education (Master level or equivalent in Finance, Economics or Accountancy).
  • Relevant work experience of at least 7 years of which at least 5 years’ experience in a comparable executive position on strategic level.
  • Visionary/ strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of business economics and finance.
  • Experience in accounting and financial reporting, integrated business and budget planning as well as governance risk and controls.
  • Stakeholder management and negotiating skills with different partners where different financial and commercial interests can play an important role.
  • Experience in finance and accounting (debt and cash flow management) within
  • the aviation industry is strongly preferred.
  • Leadership and problem solving skills.
  • Proven management and communication skills;
  • Knowledge of organizational and process management.
  • Decisiveness and persuasiveness.
  • Stress resistant.
  • Solid communication skills in English (verbal and written) and preferably also in Dutch;
  • Knowledge of organizational and process management.
  • Relevant experience in the region including a good understanding of the local economic, political and social environment.
