Summary of position:

  • This role is reporting to the CEO and is responsible for Human Resources across a growing group of Marine Businesses located across the Caribbean. The role will be based in Sint Maarten and will be responsible for growing the resource capability across the group of businesses. The Head of Human Resources shall be responsible for developing and executing human resource strategies in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization, specifically in the areas of capability planning, talent management, performance management, people leadership coaching and training and development.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing advice and Human Resource support to the CEO, Directors and Managers carrying out specific tasks as directed.
  • Creating and maintaining a fit for purpose Human Resource strategy for the group of businesses.
  • Recruiting and on-boarding of staff to meet the organizational goals.
  • Creating and monitoring training programs across the organization including forging relationships with educational institutions to establish a pipeline of apprentices.
  • Revising and implementing appropriate salary & compensation plans, carrying out role evaluations and making recommendations on salary.
  • Ensuring appropriate employment contracts are in place for all employees.
  • Monitoring leave and welfare of staff and implementing appropriate strategies to ensure a fair employment environment across the organization.
  • Design and support managers in the implementation of appropriate human resource policies
  • Support managers in the implementation of performance management and objective based evaluation.
  • Advise managers on employment law and appropriate strategies to enable them to manage their people effectively in line with organizational goals.
  • Ensure that the company complies with current regulation.
  • Take a lead role in strengthening the organizational culture and ensuring the company values and ethos is championed
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to key people in the organization and create a lasting culture of learning and strong people leadership within the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Kennis en vaardigheden

  • Relevant degree or certification in Human Resources.
  • 5 - 8 years of relevant HR experience in a related industry is a pre.
  • Previous experience in HR, preferably in Sint Maarten.
  • Experience in implementing strategies in recruitment, reward, and recognition, learning and development and performance management.
  • Trained in HR practices CIPD or similar.
  • A good knowledge of Sint Maarten employment regulations.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing departments and teams.
  • The ability to develop and nurture relationships across departments.
  • The confidence to provide sound professional advice.
  • The ability to lead the development of effective employment policies.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulations, accepted professional standards, policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • The ability to analyse and review HR data to identify trends
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS systems.
