Our client on Sint Maarten is the Red Cross or Red / Crescent National Society.

One of the primary roles of any Red Cross or Red Crescent National Society, as an auxiliary to the authorities/government, is to provide first-line disaster response services. Red Cross St Maarten volunteers play an essential role and are trained in first aid so that they can bring life-saving assistance to people injured in a disaster. They are also trained to assess the damage and the emergency needs of the population and can identify those in need of assistance, to organize relief distributions. Humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality are the seven Fundamental Principles that provide an ethical, operational, and institutional framework to the work of the Red Cross St Maarten.

Position Overview:

The Branch Manager is responsible for four key areas within the branch, which include Disaster Preparedness and Response, Resource Mobilization, Relationship Management, and Volunteer Management. As Branch Manager, this role provides leadership and direction to volunteers and staff, ensuring that the goals and mission of the St Maarten Red Cross are effectively delivered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and focus on Disaster Management including preparedness, risk reduction, response, emergency management, recovery activities, and community resilience building;
  • Provide leadership and management direction for the organization’s administration, strategic planning, fundraising, supervision of staff and coordination of the volunteers;
  • Implement a robust volunteer management framework at the branch to attract and retain volunteers to RCSXM;
  • Identify and address capacity building requirements for staff, and volunteers at the branch;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the government, community leaders, and other stakeholders;
  • Analyze operations to enhance efficiency and monitor achievement of the branch’s annual plans;
  • Manage local first aid programs/training, volunteer development, and other projects;
  • Lead the Branch resource mobilization and design plans for sustainability of the branch;
  • Implement resource mobilization strategies to achieve overall fundraising targets;
  • Create an annual budget, including regular monitoring of the budget to maintain accountability and ensure fiscal responsibility;
  • Prepare/supervise necessary progress reports and documents for board meetings and attend all meetings.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Carry out programs and activities to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers;
  • Build organizational unity and a culture of innovation;
  • Disseminate and implement all the approved policies and procedure;
  • Plan, coordinate and lead the implementation of volunteer recruitment campaigns and fundraising;
  • Monitor and evaluate the branch performance in compliance with the strategic plan, budget, and policies;
  • Ensure proper usage and safe custody of Branch assets in accordance with the RCSXM approved procedures;
  • Set and deliver short and long term strategic plans to the Board for approval;
  • Managing budgets, allocating branch funds, and defining financial objectives;
  • Evaluating employees’ performance and providing feedback and coaching as needed.


Kennis en vaardigheden

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Management, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations/Administration, or other relevant disciplines;
  • Willingness to work extended hours during a crisis or/and disaster (on-call);
  • Experience with a proven track record of project management skills, accounting/administration, policy development, volunteer management, marketing, and fundraising development;
  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years experience in a management/supervisory role;
  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years experience in a management role at a nonprofit organization is a plus;
  • Proven leadership in the role of disaster management, preparedness, and response;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good and timely judgment in complex situations;
  • Demonstrated ability for strong communications and influencing skills along with public speaking and writing;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain community relationships/partnerships;
  • Demonstrated creativity and productivity in resource mobilization;
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline;
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices;
  • Willingness to work extended hours during a crisis or/and disaster (on-call);
  • Willingness to invest time and give back to the community.
